I am a bad, bad blogger.

The last couple of weeks at work have been completely crazy, with planning for the school’s Athletics Carnival taking up every waking moment (and functioning brain cell). Today was the big day, and all the food and necessary gear was packed up ready to go across to the completely ghastly kitchens at the sports oval, and what do you think? It rained. So we have to reschedule. Unforunately, you can’t reschedule pies, sausage rolls and mini-pizzas (all of which had been thawed preparatory to cooking), so lunch went ahead as planned. 148 lunches, out of a school of about 350 kids. It was the biggest day I’ve had since I took over, and it was nuts. And I have to do it all over again in a couple of weeks time (whimper, sniffle).

Tech Support was away at a conference all last week (where someone very kindly broke into his car for him. Luckily, the only things stolen were the charger and cradle for his GPS unit – everything else of value was in his hotel room). On Wednesday I had to make a dash to Orange to see the optometrist, because I’ve been having a weirdness in my left eye. The optometrist said he thought it was something unpronounceable, and sent me off to an eye specialist who confirmed that it was definitely the unpronounceable thing, which is causing chronic dry-eye, and a slight cloudiness over my cornea. I have been prescribed two kinds of drops and an ointment which will hopefully sort things out, but I have been warned not to be surprised if the cloudiness doesn’t go completely. This is a bit of a bummer, but I’m hoping for the best, and being extremely virtuous about using all my eye-goo on time. Things feel better, my eye is less sore, and the haziness seems to be clearing up. I have to go back to the specialist on 10th June to get the official word on how I’m doing.

While in Orange, I stopped by Caboodle to pick up the patterns I ordered the other week, and now I just have to decide what yarn to use for the Landscape Shawl. I’m thinking this lovely thick-and-thin from Rainbow Wools might be nice (still undecided as to colour). I’ll be wanting something super-dooper warm, because in July I am heading south to visit a friend (squeeee!), and go here. It’s going to be mighty cold, so I’ll need to arm myself against the winter, don’t you think?

Also, I’m feeling the love for this pattern. I found it while cruising Ravelry last night and now I’m completely smitten.

I promise, there has been knitting going on, even some finishing, but I’ve lost the USB cable for the camera (I should say Tech Support has lost it – it’s in his office, which looks like the place that electronics go when they’ve been very, very bad), so I can’t show you any pics just yet. TS is away overnight (again, grrr), so when he gets back I’ll make him find it and then hopefully I should be good to go on a proper catch-up post.

I hear you on the husband travel. Mine left this morning. Last thing he told the kids was, “Don’t give your mother a hard time.” They promptly forgot that, and before his plane even took off, they’d made me cry and I’ve sworn not to take them anywhere else this summer.

I hope your eye improves completely and I’m so, so sorry about the rescheduling after all that work. Stupid weather.

Darn enabler! That garter stitch jacket is now, of course, in my I’ll knit it one day list on Rav…… I’ve been going through all of the pattern pages and I don’t know how I ever missed it!

Has there ever been an athletics carnival untroubled by weather interference??? I feel for you on the soon-to-be-repeated lunch extravaganza.

Hope you have some yarn in your fingers very soon to cast on for that shawl – surely the best antidote to all the other trials and tribulations!
