A Long-Anticpated Visitor

10 Oct

My Boyo is eight-and-a-half, so the fact that he still had all his baby teeth was starting to raise some questions. Questions like, “Mum, how come I still have all my baby teeth?”

Until about two months ago, that is, when we finally discovered a wiggly tooth. There was much excitement, and Boyo started anticipating the imminent arrival of the Tooth Fairy (and accosting total strangers in the street “Hey, look at my wiggly tooth! [wiggle wiggle wiggle] Isn’t that cool?”). Except, the tooth wouldn’t come out. Last week, we even discovered that the new tooth had cut through behind the baby tooth, which was still budgeless.

Finally, last night, the great event transpired. After brushing his teeth he gave it a good tug, just like every other night, only this time it popped out! He was so surprised!

Great was the joy and celebration at Casa Della Frog, and even greater was Boyo’s delight this morning when he found that the Tooth Fairy had come in the night. He has spent the entire day with his bounty clenched in his hot little hand.

My favourite part?

The gap in the grin.

well we weren’t allowed to put the teeth out for the tooth fair because she loves them too much. Apparaently,

So we have to hide the 2 lost teeth from the tooth fairy.

She’d sooner have the teeth than the money!

Congratulations!! Vaughan doesn’t trust the tooth fairy. What exactly is she doing with all those teeth, anyway? What kind of person (fairy, whatever) traffics in shed body parts? Really, I can’t fault his logic. So I buy the teeth from him for a dollar, because they’re my kid’s teeth, and I want them, dammit.

Sadly, the Tooth Fairy seems to have a blind spot in our house, to the extent that DS hardly even bothers to put the teeth out any more….
