Amish Friendship Bread

18 Mar

dscf0079…is a sweet sourdough “bread”, in the same way banana bread is a bread: more cake-like than bread-like in texture. It takes a bit of prep-work, beacuse the sourdough starter takes ten days to ferment, but after that you can bake it every five days if you like. The starter can also be slowed down in the fridge, or frozen if you prefer. Once you’ve got your basic bread recipe, you can customise it however you like. Today I made a loaf of apple-cinnamon, and a few orange poppyseed muffins. In the past I’ve made date and walnut, apple and sultana, apricot and almond. The possibilities are endless.

Recipe for the starter is here and the bread here.

This looks similar to a mix that was floating around when I was a teenager. I was mildly addicted 🙂 Came here via Unravelled, just checking if you know that Dollhouse is downloadable on a week by week basis, currently up to episode 5. Anything Joss Whedon does is definitely worth watching. Also did you catch Dr Horrible? Couldn’t stop myself from thinking “Doogie” was a crack up!
